Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct

Moira Shire Council is developing the Yarrawonga Town Hall, Library, Events and Performance Precinct, which includes the historical Town Hall. 

This project includes the development of a new state-of-the-art Library building, Stage 1, and the redevelopment of the Yarrawonga Town Hall, Stage 2.  

This project is jointly funded by Council, and the Victorian Government's Community Infrastructure Loan Scheme and Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.

Project Journey prior to June 2024 

In March 2024, Chief Executive Officer Matthew Morgan provided a community update sharing the new project structure of the Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct. Separating the two project stages, the Library build and the Town Hall redevelopment.

Updates Prior to June 2024

May 2024 

Construction of the new Yarrawonga Library building has progressed with the first slab pour between the Town Hall and Bourkes Hotel. This sets the foundation for the community foyer / exhibition space, commercial kitchen, and multipurpose rooms. Following the slab pour, contractors will be planning to complete the remaining building service rough in and commence the excavation for the remaining slab on ground areas.

April 2024 

Construction works are underway on the Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct. Contractors are currently undertaking construction on Stage 1 which will see the construction of the new state-of-the-art Library, community meeting spaces, gallery/foyer spaces and cafe/commercial kitchen.

30 April: Following an unscheduled Council Meeting, Moira Shire Council appointed 14 members of the community to the Yarrawonga Town Hall Future Use Advisory Group. The appointed Advisory Group includes people from various backgrounds, ensuring diverse community representation. The comprising community members and representatives from various community organisations will assist Council to inform the scope and deliverables of the Stage 2 Works which features the redevelopment of the Town Hall.

24 April: Council is calling for nominations from interested community members to join the Yarrawonga Town hall Future Use Advisory Group.

March 2024 

Council Reaffirmed its commitment to the Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct project with works recommencing on site in early April.

December 2023 

The construction of the underground services, commenced in November, are moving along as scheduled. The first concrete pour for the library is scheduled for early in the new year. 

October 2023 

Yarrawonga Library Community Fundraising Committee officially launched, with the Friends of the Yarrawonga Library donating $20,000 to start the fundraising venture.

The group aims to raise $230,000 by June 2024 to contribute towards the equipment, furniture and fit out for the new Library. Community donations are welcomed, visit the GV Library fundraising page for more information or to make a donation.

October 2023 

Sub Contractor, Ultra Project Solutions, has purchased the materials for associated drainage works to start for the library building.

The first section of the new build, between the Town Hall and Burkes Hotel, is anticipated to have all underground services completed before the new year. 

August 2023

The new library site earth works, east of the Town Hall, are now complete, enabling a weight bearing bench for the concrete slab to be put in. 

This construction methodology is being continued between Bourkes Hotel and the northern side of the Town Hall. 

Once the weight bearing slab has been approved, the site drainage will commence. 

July 2023 

Work has now commenced on the Yarrawonga Library, you may have noticed some heavy machinery on site and lots of dirt. 

The team are currently digging up the natural soil form the site, mixing it with gravel and rolling it back down to ensure a weight bearing bench can be achieved before the concrete slab is poured.

October 2022 

The parallel car parks north on Orr St (along side of Town Hall Complex) will be closed for approx. 12 months commencing from 17 October 2022.

February 2022 

At an unscheduled meeting on 2 February 2022 Council voted to allocate an additional $1.2 million from cash reserves to the project budget. This will be sufficient to cover the costs of the entire project, including oncosts for both Stages 1 and 2.

Yarrawonga Library Community Fundraising Committee 

The Fundraising group are seeking community contributions for the project to demonstrate local community commitment. The fundraising will support the library to be equipped with modern furniture and state of the art fit out for the needs of all our community.

Library Project Steering Committee

The Community Reference Group comprises of community members and representatives of the Town Hall Precinct's user groups including Friends of the Library, Yarrawonga, Sacred Heart Debutante Ball Committee, Mulwala/ Yarrawonga Social Dance Group, St Cuthberts Anglican Ball Committee, Yarrawonga Lioness Club, Country Women’s Association Victoria, Yarrawonga, Allegro Theatre Company, Yoga Group, Sun Country Dance and Moira Shire Youth Council.
