Young achievers, emergency response volunteers and community events and fundraisers have been celebrated at the annual Moira Shire Australia Day Awards.
Held as part of local town events, the Awards recognise local volunteers who go above and beyond to support and improve the community.
This year, there were 38 nominations across the six categories, with the winners announced at each town’s Australia Day event.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the people and projects nominated reflect the strength and community spirit of Moira Shire.
“These awards are an important opportunity to recognise the people in our community who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver events, create new opportunities or make our towns a better place to live and work,” Dr Emonson said.
“Through these awards, we recognise the unsung heroes of our communities – those who ensure the sports matches run as planned, help fundraise for important community events and facilities, respond to emergencies and support others in the community.
“They are the backbone of ensuring our communities continue to grow, are connected, have new opportunities and help strengthen the social fabric of our towns, and we thank them for everything they do.”
