Community groups share in Moira Shire Council’s Community Strengthening Grants

Six local community groups have been awarded funding through Moira Shire Council’s Community Strengthening Grants program, with a total of $44,291.50 allocated in this round. These grants are designed to support organisations that offer diverse and inclusive services, facilities, events, and activities to benefit the community.

Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM highlighted the importance of the program in empowering local groups to bring their projects to life.

“Our Community Strengthening Grants are a vital component of the Council’s support for local organisations. They provide opportunities to launch initiatives and projects that might otherwise remain out of reach,” Dr Emonson said.

“We are excited to support a wide range of projects across the Shire and look forward to seeing these initiatives come to fruition over the next year.”

This round of grants saw a strong focus on safety-related projects:

  • Cobram Barooga Canoe Club will use their funding to purchase equipment for water safety programs, including Bush Nippers.
  • Royal Flying Doctor Service Australia will allocate their grant to volunteer training and service promotion.
  • Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball League will invest in first aid kits and provide training for coaches, team managers, and referees.

Other successful projects include:

  • Yarrawonga and District Cemetery Trust will enhance the Woods Road entrance and create a sand and soil storage area for ongoing use.
  • Nathalia and District Men’s Shed will install two heating and cooling split system units to improve comfort in their workspace.
  • Numurkah and District Historical Society will commemorate Numurkah’s 150th anniversary by installing four large noticeboards at the museum to showcase the township’s history.
