Moira Shire Council has endorsed the naming of the access road leading into the JC Lowe Oval precinct in Yarrawonga as ‘Neil Place’.

The proposal, put forward by the Yarrawonga JC Lowe Oval Recreation Committee Asset Committee, received strong community support during the consultation period. The name ‘Neil Place’ honours Neil Davis for his significant contributions to the Yarrawonga community.

Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM stated that it is fitting to name the access road to JC Lowe Oval, home to many of Yarrawonga’s sporting clubs, in recognition of Neil’s significant contributions to the local sporting community.

“Neil was a highly regarded member of the Yarrawonga Football Netball Club, the Lawn Tennis Club, and the broader Yarrawonga community. It is only fitting to endorse the naming of the access road to the JC Lowe Oval precinct, where both clubs are located, after someone who made such a significant contribution over the years,” said Dr Emonson.

“Council received 13 submissions regarding the naming of the access road, and it is clear that there is strong community support. Given the strength of these submissions and the numerous requests to recognise Neil’s contributions, we will engage further with Neil’s family to determine how we can appropriately link the name ‘Neil Place’ to his legacy.”

The naming of this road will enhance emergency services' response for the local community using the facilities at JC Lowe Oval. Clearly named roads assist both residents and services in navigating areas more efficiently.

The name ‘Neil Place’ will now be submitted to Geographic Names Victoria for consideration. Once approved by Geographic Names Victoria, Council will update the community of the decision.
