Moira Shire Council has awarded grants to four projects across the shire, totalling $26,149, as part of the Community Strengthening Grants Program.

Mayor Libro Mustica said Council grants were a great way to kick start a community initiative, with the grants designed to support community organisations that provide diverse and effective local services, facilities and activities.

“These grants help facilitate projects which enrich the whole community and can assist in the development of services, management of facilities, co-ordination of events and promotion of tourism, environmental sustainability and health in the community,” Cr Mustica said.

“This latest round of grants will help community groups from St James, Yarrawonga, Numurkah and Cobram.

“The Cobram Football Club will receive $10,000 to assist in creating a new spectator shelter.

“The Rotary Club of Numurkah will receive $10,000 to help in the purchase of an 11 seater all-abilities community bus for use by residents of the Pioneer Lodge and Karinya Nursing Home.

“The St James Golf Club will receive $1,804 to replace old curtains which will improve the clubhouse; the carpet will also be replaced but has been included in Council’s renewal program for 2022/23.

“The Yarrawonga and Border Agricultural and Pastoral Association will receive $4,345 for the installation of an evaporative cooler in the Hammon Pavilion.

“Congratulations to those community groups.

“I would also like to thank the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Group who provided support to the applicants with the online application process including computer and internet use.”
