Grant awarded for Yarrawonga Foreshore development

Moira Shire Council has been awarded $2.7 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Regional Jobs and Investment Packages (RJIP) to fill two critical gaps that exist in the 5km Yarrawonga Tourism Trail from the current traffic bridge on the foreshore to the Silverwoods development.

Works include stabilisation of the bank and construction of a shared pathway along an 800m section of River Road to be undertaken gy Goulburn Murray Water (GMW) between the two boat ramps.

Further to the east Lotus Living will undertake works including the development of shared pathways, a boardwalk, jetties, retaining wall and viewing platforms as well as landscaping at The Point development.

Mayor Libro Mustica said this funding was a terrific win to Yarrawonga and the Moira Shire.

“Once complete, this tourism trail will provide safe, off road passage offering picturesque and uninterrupted views across Lake Mulwala for the thousands of tourists who visit the region each year,” Cr Mustica said.

“This funding will help Yarrawonga unlock its potential by investing in a key project to support the town’s economic future.

“There is also the added benefit of ongoing employment in the construction and maintenance of this new asset.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael McCormack joined Federal Member for Murray Damian Drum, Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie, Moira Shire Council CEO Mark Henderson and Mayor Libro Mustica in Shepparton on Friday to announce this and other successful projects in the RJIP funding round.

Work on the Yarrawonga Tourism Trial is expected to commence in coming weeks.
