Have your say on Domestic Animal Management

After consulting with stakeholders and the community at the end of last year, Council has developed a draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2021-2025 in accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and we want to know what you think.
Mayor Libro Mustica said the community’s feedback would help Council to plan the management of domestic cats and dogs for the next four years.
“We want people to feel safe in their communities and doing all we can to ensure people are not attacked or feel threatened by dogs is vital to this goal,” Cr Mustica said.
“The Domestic Animal Management Plan describes how we, as a council, will respond to the approximately 1,500 calls we receive each year and deliver animal control services.
“We also aim to reduce the number of dog attacks by implementing various prevention activities including educating the community on responsible pet ownership and ensuring adequate fencing.
“In addition, Council will encourage and facilitate reporting of dog attacks and detail the serious consequences to owners of dogs who attack people or animals.
“I encourage all relevant organisations and members of the public to read the draft Plan – we know people have strong views on domestic animals – please share them.”
Moira Shire Council CEO Clare Keenan said “all submissions in relation to the draft DAM Plan will be considered”.
