Moira Shire Council has released its draft Waste Management and Services Strategy 2018-2027 for community feedback.
General Manager Community Sally Rice said strong community and key stakeholder support was vital in ensuring Council had the right priorities for waste management now and into the future.
“The Waste Management and Services Strategy 2018-2027 will provide guidance for Council to work towards its long term vision and to meet the needs of the community as well as align with state and regional priorities,” Ms Rice said.
“This strategy will also provide a strategic framework to assist Council with decision making and prioritisation to deliver environmentally sustainable waste services.”
Council has a strong track record of providing high standard waste services with achievements including the award-winning kerbside organics service, major rehabilitation of landfill cells, free mulch days and the Waste Management in Moira app highlighting our commitment to best practice planning.
Ms Rice said there were five key objectives to the draft Waste Management and Services Strategy 2018-2027.
“We are aiming, with this strategy, to operate compliant and where possible best practice waste management sites,” she said.
“We would ensure our waste sites meet whole of shire needs, maximise the life span of the Cobram landfill, implement an ongoing review of our waste services to improve the quality and efficiency of services plus endeavour to have financial allocations which reflect service users.”
