Junior Netball Revival in Cobram
Published on 04 March 2025
Last week saw the return of a popular sporting program for Cobram’s aspiring young netballers, with the launch of the Cobram and District Junior Netball Association’s first competition.
A free junior netball mini ‘taster’ competition will be held over the next six weeks, with the launch on Wednesday, February 26 seeing the first round of matches followed by a barbecue for players and families.
The association will cater for players ranging from 11 & under through to 17 and under, with teams already registered from Cobram, Barooga, Tocumwal, Strathmerton, Katunga, Yarroweyah and Numurkah.
The association’s competition has returned in 2025 after the former Cobram District Netball Association went on hiatus in 2017. It has been revived following Moira Shire Council’s Cobram and District Junior Netball Association Reactivation Project and increased community interest.
Moira Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Matthew Morgan said the return of the competition would help encourage more young people to get active in a fun, welcoming and relaxed environment.
“Whether you’re looking for something fun, interested in trying a new sport or want to improve your skills in a competitive environment, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved,” he said.
“More opportunity to access sport is so important to increase participation throughout people’s lives and the revamped Cobram and District Junior Netball Association will help create new pathways to skills development, training, clinics and more.”
The Cobram and District Junior Netball Association is also currently planning a bigger competition for Term 2 and 3, with registration details available soon.
