Help with landscaping plant selection now available

Choosing the right landscaping is important for privacy, amenity and security and can make or break a development.

Moira Shire Mayor Cr Gary Cleveland said, “All new developments are generally required to submit landscape plans for Council approval as part of a planning permit application or meeting conditions of a planning permit.”

The new Landscape Plan Guide for Developments in Campaspe Shire Council, Greater Shepparton City Council and Moira Shire Council provides assistance to those applying for planning permits to efficiently and effectively submit the required characteristics of a landscape plan.

“The Landscape Plan Guide includes templates, information and advice on things such as native species selection and will be invaluable to everyone submitting a landscape plan to Council,” Mayor Cleveland said.

“It is a valuable go-to reference, with templates, sample plans and information about the approvals process – it’s a must have for anyone planning a new development,” Mayor Cleveland said.

The Landscape Plan Guide establishes common requirements for sustainable and appropriate landscape developments across the three municipalities.

“The guide also provides advice on plant species selection and encourages the use of appropriate native plants for the existing environmental conditions,” Mayor Cleveland said.

“We encourage people to use indigenous native plants which need less water in their designs.  We’ve done the hard work as the guide includes a suggested plant list which makes it so much easier to know which plants to use,” said Mayor Cleveland.

“It’s a great tool for the everyday gardener too as the plant list provides a range of low-water native plants indigenous to the area,” said Mayor Cleveland.
