Let’s celebrate Volunteer Week
Published on 17 May 2021
National Volunteer Week celebrations are back and more deserving than ever, particularly after last year’s COVID-19 lock downs.
Mayor Libro Mustica said this week of celebrations highlights the role of volunteers in the community.
“It gives everyone the chance to say thank you,” Cr Mustica said.
“It is also a timely reminder to encourage those who may not currently be engaged in volunteering activities, to search out opportunities to do so.
“On behalf of Moira Shire Council, I extend a sincere thank you to the many people who generously volunteer their time and effort for the betterment of local communities.”
Cr Mustica said Council has almost 400 volunteers alone who helped manage community facilities, open spaces, and sit on various advisory committees and reference groups.
“Their contributions are invaluable and have made a profound impact within our communities and society as a whole,” he said.
“Then there are the literally hundreds of volunteers who give their time to Meals on Wheels, L2P learner drivers, the various opportunity shops, emergency services, sporting groups, and the countless other ways members of our community generously donate their time and efforts to make our shire the best place it can be."
