Moira Shire has welcomed its newest citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony in Cobram. Held on Tuesday 17 September, Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM presided over the event with fellow Administrator Suzanna Sheed AM.
Dr Emonson congratulated the 23 new citizens, emphasising the importance of their decision to become Australians and their commitment to building a shared future.
“Our community is stronger and richer thanks to the diversity of our people. This ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what it means to be Australian and to celebrate those who have chosen to make this country home,” said Dr Emonson.
“It is an inspiring sight to see so many new citizens supported by their families, both in Australia and overseas, as they embark on this significant milestone.”
“We take this opportunity to welcome all our new citizens and extend, on behalf of the Moira Shire community, best wishes for a happy and successful future as citizens of Australia.”
The group of new citizens includes former residents of the Philippines, New Zealand, India, Myanmar, Somalia, Northern Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
During the ceremony, Dr Emonson read a message from The Hon Tony Bourke MP, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Minister for Cyber Security, Minister for the Arts, and Leader of the House, who thanked the new citizens for their decision to become Australians.
“Australia welcomes you as a full member of one of the most diverse nations on earth where our citizenship is a bond that unites us all,” Mr Bourke’s message read.
