Off-Leash Dog Area Policy – have your say
Published on 02 March 2022
Council is exploring ways to make Moira Shire more dog friendly and a draft Dog Off-Leash Area Policy is now out for public feedback.
Mayor Libro Mustica said dogs could currently be exercised off-leash in daylight hours at showgrounds, football grounds and recreation reserves across the shire.
“Dogs must be in the presence of the owner and the off-leash provisions do not apply when an organised sporting event or similar activity is in progress,” Cr Mustica said.
“During these events dogs must on a leash at all times.”
Cr Mustica said in addition to these open areas Council had received a number of requests to provide confined off-leash areas for dogs.
“These would been in the form of a fenced off-leash dog park,” he said.
“We conducted an initial survey in late 2021 to test the broad community attitude to these assets and to assist in the development of a draft Policy.
“This survey had a terrific response with 329 people taking the time to answer the questions.
“Their responses helped guide and develop the draft Off-Leash Dog Area Policy.”
Mayor Libro Mustica said this draft Policy would help guide the development of off-leash areas throughout Moira Shire.
“All submissions received by the deadline will be considered by Council prior to deciding whether to proceed with the draft Policy, with or without amendment,” he said.
Submissions can be made in the following ways – online via Council’s website, by mail to PO Box 578 Cobram Vic 3643, or email info@moira.vic.gov.au.
