Moira Shire Council Chief Administrator John Tanner AM today called for greater involvement in, and support for service clubs with their ripple-effect role in fostering stronger, more vibrant communities.

“The importance of service clubs lies in their ability to create a ripple effect of positive change,” he said.

“These organisations act as catalysts for community empowerment by offering opportunities for individuals to give back and actively participate in building a better future.”

Mr. Tanner said one of the key objectives of the Council and his role as Chair of the Panel of Administrators was to enhance community engagement and develop community leadership and participation in civic life.

The Yarrawonga Lions Club recently installed a new President Jock McDonald, as did the Central Murray Sunrise Rotary Club with Jan Marshall and the Yarrawonga Mulwala Rotary Club with Ron Kennett.

Mr. Tanner congratulated the new Presidents and highlighted how service clubs play an integral role in addressing local needs, promoting social engagement, and uplifting the lives of individuals across Moira Shire.

“From supporting educational initiatives and promoting healthcare access to addressing poverty and environmental sustainability, service clubs work tirelessly to enhance the well-being of our area,” he said.

“Most importantly, they serve as engines of community development, sparking economic growth and revitalization. Their efforts often extend beyond immediate philanthropy to support small enterprises, promote entrepreneurship, and generate employment opportunities.

“I encourage young people and adults to become more involved in civic life by joining service clubs, such as Lions and Rotary, and other volunteer organisations to help fulfil this role.”

He called on individuals, businesses, and government entities to recognize the indispensable role service clubs and volunteer organisations play in shaping society, collectively build stronger, more resilient communities that uplift and empowering every member.
