Transfer to a cashless waste system
Published on 27 October 2020
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to safeguard the health and safety of our employees, Moira Shire Council will be phasing out the use of cash at our nine transfer stations and the Cobram landfill site.
General Manager Community Sally Rice said from Sunday 1 November 2020 Council would no longer accept cash payments at any of its waste facilities will all transactions being via EFTPOS only.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of contactless payments in our society and we are simply moving with the times,” Ms Rice said.
“This decision will significantly protect the health and welfare, not only of our staff, but residents as well by reducing the need for handling cash.
“This will in turn save ratepayers a significant amount of money in the long term by reducing the need for on-site security, the collection of cash from our facilities and banking.”
