Moira Shire has welcomed nine new citizens at a ceremony at the Cobram Civic Centre on Sunday, 26 January.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM presided over the event, congratulating the new citizens and welcoming them to the Shire.
“Becoming a citizen is an important milestone and we are thrilled nine people have officially chosen to call our Shire home,” Dr Emonson said.
“Every person brings new experiences, skills and perspectives to our Shire, and this diversity creates a richer, stronger and more vibrant community.
“We look forward to seeing our newest citizens’ contributions to our area and the role they will play in Moira Shire’s future.
“Citizenship is an exciting time for our newest residents and something they will cherish forever. We wish them every success as they start this new chapter of their lives.”
Seven adults and two children from the Philippines, South Africa, New Zealand and South Africa gained citizenship at January’s ceremony.
During the ceremony, Dr Emonson read a message from the Federal Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon. Tony Burke, congratulating the new citizens, their commitment to Australia’s values and contribution to the Australian story.
