Next Steps in Motion for the Yarrawonga West Drainage Master Plan

Moira Shire Council has officially adopted the Yarrawonga West Drainage Master Plan.
This forward-thinking plan sets the stage for crucial upgrades in flood management, stormwater treatment, and drainage infrastructure. This plan is designed not only to address current challenges, but also to prepare for future growth.
Discussed at the July Scheduled Council Meeting, following consultation with the community, the Master plan outlines strategic improvements to protect homes and businesses from flooding and enhance the catchment area’s resilience to future weather events. These enhancements will play a crucial role in shaping future planning decisions for Yarrawonga.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the plan was a pivotal step towards securing the safety and sustainability of the community.
“This is a long-term plan to reduce the impacts of stormwater flooding, and to facilitate growth for Yarrawonga,” Dr Emonson said.
“As funding become available, we’ll progress the infrastructure projects in the plan. Council is committed to advancing these essential upgrades efficiently and with minimal disruption to residents and businesses.
“By tackling the current drainage and flooding issues effectively, we pave the way for future development. Yarrawonga is growing, and this infrastructure is vital for future housing. It’s essential to plan ahead now rather than play catch-up later.”
Community and stakeholder engagement has been integral to developing this Master Plan, adding immense value to the draft strategy. The next steps involve detailed planning and incorporating valuable community feedback.
