Cloth nappy rebate

nappy.PNG

How many nappies do you think one child will go through until they can consistently use the toilet? It is estimated the average child will use around 6,500 nappies - equivalent to around 1 tonne of plastic waste that ends up in landfill. And........it could take around 500 years for that nappy to decompose.

Over the past four years we have had an average 345 babies born per year in the Moira Shire. If all of those families used disposable nappies that is a staggering 345 tonnes of waste that can be avoided. In fact, our annual kerbside landfill waste would reduce by 7.5% if we all switched to cloth nappies. Organic material (faeces) sent to landfill breaks down and eventually releases methane, a greenhouse gas that is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

With our landfill filling up quickly and only having a limited lifespan, we are dedicated to providing incentives for households to reduce their waste. Reusable products, while cost effective in the long run, can have a significant upfront cost so by offering a rebate for these items, this upfront cost is significantly reduced, and so are the disposable nappies in your landfill bin.
